Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. SOS 2:10
My reading of Song of Solomon continued this morning. I again pr for help to see past the sexual stuff that is so obviously there and to see beyond in order to grasp the deep things that only Papa can reveal. I read Chapters 2 and 3. I actually read it twice to make certain that what I thought I was being shown the first time wasn’t just feeling-based or seeing what I wanted to see but that this morning’s insights were really from Him. I don’t know who all will read this, but I just know that these insights I am being shown are not for me alone. I hope all that follows will be clear and help change you as it is changing me.
If you’ve read the first blog on SOS insights, then you know that the Shulamite (the wife/Ch) thought herself unworthy of the Beloved’s (the husband/Papa) love. I can imagine her growing up hard as she says in the first chapter that she became dark because she had to work. She was not given a pampered life, and it seems to me that perhaps she wasn’t shown the affection and love that she desired from her family. That all changed when she became the Beloved’s bride.
Right from the start of Chapter 2, you can see how delighted and in love she is with her husband. He brings her joy and comfort and peace. He showers her with love though they are seemingly only just married so much so that she admits that she is lovesick for him. She spends time with her beloved, and he says some amazing words to her. Check out verses 10 to 13. His words to her inspire more love for him. In essence, to me, his words say – forget your past, forget all the bad that has ever happened to you, simply come with me, and look at all of the good (the changes) that I am doing in your life.
And what is her, the Shulamite’s, response? She says, “Continue to whisper to me your words. Speak and let me see your face. Let me hear your tender voice. For I know that both are lovely.” (verse 14 in my own words)
Things don’t just stop there though. Oh no, you can easily see how much her love for her husband and trust in him has grown. It is there at the beginning of Chapter 3 and all throughout that part of SOS. Her love and trust in her Beloved is so great now that she seeks him out earnestly when he cannot be found. Are we willing to do such when we feel alone and seemingly cannot find the Lord or his will for us? May I remind you that he will be found and longs to be found but only if we seek as she does with all of our hearts (Jeremiah 29:13).
